Kyo-yaki (Kyoto ware) has been produced in the kilns of Higashiyama for over 400 years, known for its refined colour palette, elegant hand-painted motifs, and exceptional quality. In this 2-hour workshop at a family-run studio in the shadow of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, you will centre your clay on an electric wheel, pull up walls, shape a chawan (tea bowl) or small vase, and choose your glaze colour from 12 options. Your piece will be kiln-fired and mailed to your home address anywhere in the world within 3 weeks — a lasting, handmade memory of Kyoto.
