Watching Japan's famous bluefin tuna auction from the glass observation deck is one of Tokyo's most extraordinary experiences. Massive frozen tuna — some weighing 200–300kg — are lined up in rows as licensed auctioneers rapid-fire bids using a unique hand-signal language (tegata) in a frenzied 20-minute process. The winning bids for premium New Year tuna have exceeded ¥100 million in famous cases.

Apply online at least 1 month ahead. ¥2,000 per person. Limited to 120 visitors/day in 2 groups. Auction starts 5:25am. Weekdays only — check the market holiday calendar.

The most famous sushi restaurant at any market in Japan. Sushi Dai moved from Tsukiji to Toyosu and maintained its reputation for extraordinary quality and legendary queues. The omakase set (chef's choice, 10 pieces) runs ¥4,000–¥6,000 and showcases the freshest tuna, sea urchin, and seasonal fish from the market floor below. The queue regularly exceeds 3–4 hours — arrive before 4:30am if you want to eat by 6am.

A slightly shorter wait than Sushi Dai but comparable quality. Uogashi Nihon-ichi has been a market institution since the Tsukiji era. The standing sushi bar format (tachi-gui-zushi) means faster table turnover — you stand at a counter eating fresh nigirizushi at market speed. The market set (5 pieces + miso soup) costs ¥1,500–¥2,500.

Open 6am. Uogashi Yokocho building. Typically 60–90 min wait on weekdays, shorter on weekdays outside school holidays.

The "outer market" at Toyosu houses 70+ shops and restaurants across Building 7. Unlike Tsukiji's outdoor market, this is an indoor, climate-controlled shopping and dining arcade. You can buy fresh seafood, dried goods, tamagoyaki (rolled omelet from the famous Tsukiji vendors who relocated), and eat at multiple counters with far shorter waits than the famous sushi bars. Great for browsing kitchen goods, chopsticks, and Japanese condiments.

Open 7am–3pm (most shops). Building 7, ground floor. Free entry. Best for shopping between 8am–11am.

The world-famous immersive digital art installation is a 10-minute walk from Toyosu Market. teamLab Planets (豊洲) features rooms of infinite mirrors, luminous floating flowers, and an extraordinary koi-fish digital pond you walk through barefoot in shallow water.
